Shane Thomas

Station Sessions Artist - Shane Thomas

11 year old musician and composer, Shane Thomas, was three years of age when he first insisted he could play the piano - He had never touched a piano in his life; the closest he had got was playing an imaginary piano on the carpet. At six years old, he prophesised to his father that he was going to be world famous at the age of 12. He didn't explain why or how.

Shane finally got his hands on a piano aged seven – a generous gift from his Nan. Sitting down at the keys for the first time, he immediately started playing 'Little Donkey'. Then he played 'Away in a Manger', 'Silent Night' and other recognisable tunes, using both hands. Within weeks he had composed his first piece of music, and four months later he was one of just seven children in the UK to be nominated for the Talented Youngster of the Year award, performing to celebrities at the Grand Palace Hotel, Manchester. Despite not having a piano lesson for the first two years of playing, Shane was able to emulate great classical composers. He has also mastered a vast range of contemporary styles and he is also a maths genius. To date, Shane has written many of his own complex compositions. He has achieved distinction at Grade 8, has been taught at the Royal Academy, secured a deal with EMI Music Publishing and a scholarship to Eton. In August 2010 Shane was picked to play to a crowd of 9,000 opening for the English National Orchestra at Castle Howard’s Great British Proms Spectacular, and since then he has signed a publishing deal with EMI, had lessons at the Royal Academy of Music, and won a scholarship to Eton.
