Youth Music Voices
Youth Music Voices is a major new project providing those aged 16-21 (on January 1, 2012) with the opportunity to join in and celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through singing. 120 young people from the broadest cultural mix across the UK are working together as the Youth Music Voices Ensemble – a youth vocal ensemble unlike any other in the UK. With its own style, individuality, leadership, and specially commissioned repertoire of new songs and arrangements, the young singers will produce vibrant and exciting music throughout the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
As well as developing these young singers to the highest standard, the Youth Music Voices Ensemble will be performing at a prestigious London location in the run up to the London 2012 Games.
We hosted a series of events and auditons across the country to recruit the members of our national singing team. On our travels, we sang with over 2,000 young vocalists and are in the process of selecting the final few of the 120 young people that will form the Youth Music Voices Ensemble.
This is a seriously talented bunch of singers - so watch out for them performing near you from summer 2011!
One of the 20 events we hosted was at the Royal Opera House in London, who very kindly let us take over for the day as part of our search for the best young singers in the UK. Watch the highlights in our video below:
In 2008, we carried out a pilot of Youth Music Voices. Watch footage and meet the young people that were involved:
Youth Music Voices is part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, a programme that runs for four years from the end of the Beijing games in 2008 to the end of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012.
